Summary
Developed a spatial and implementation framework to transform underutilized public spaces into functional community assets through participatory planning. The project combined GIS site analysis, stakeholder engagement, and implementation manuals to guide community-led infrastructure interventions. Produced a scalable toolbox enabling planners and municipalities to operationalize low-cost public realm improvements.

Approach
Many public commons in dense urban settlements remain underutilized due to lack of planning guidance, fragmented ownership, and absence of implementation frameworks. Communities lack structured tools to identify, plan, and execute spatial interventions.
Designed a structured planning and implementation toolkit integrating spatial analysis, site suitability mapping, and modular infrastructure guidelines. Developed decision workflows to help communities and planners identify intervention sites and execute improvements using standardized planning and construction methods.

Results
Created a comprehensive DIT Toolbox including spatial assessment methods, intervention typologies, and implementation workflows.Produced detailed visual manuals and planning templates enabling communities to independently execute infrastructure improvements.Developed scalable framework applicable across multiple urban contexts, supporting planners, NGOs, and municipalities.

Impacts
Established a replicable participatory planning framework bridging spatial analysis and real-world implementation.Enabled data-informed decision-making for public space activation and decentralized infrastructure planning.Demonstrated scalable model for integrating community participation into formal planning workflows.
